Hadith books
On this page
The Hadith Collection plugin puts the hadith books on your site: Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, the Sunan and more, each hadith in Arabic, Bengali and English with its narrator, grade and reference. It is free and comes switched on.
The first time it runs it adds the Forty Hadith of an-Nawawi, so the pages are never empty, and a Hadith of the day section on the home page. The header menu gets a Hadith (হাদিস) item at installation.
Addresses
| Address | What it shows |
|---|---|
/hadith | All books, the hadith of the day, selected hadith, a search box and A hadith at random. |
/hadith/bukhari | One book with its chapters. |
/hadith/bukhari/chapter/1 | One chapter, page by page. |
/hadith/bukhari/1 | One hadith, with Share, Copy, Save as picture and Copy link, and the next and previous hadith. |
/hadith/search?q=… | Search in Arabic, Bengali and English, by book and by grade. |
/hadith/random | A hadith at random. |
A search for a book and a number, such as bukhari 52, opens that hadith straight away. Readers can switch Arabic, Bengali and English on or off for themselves.
The books keep these addresses after import: bukhari, muslim, abudawud, tirmidhi, nasai, ibnmajah, malik, nawawi, qudsi, dehlawi, musnad-ahmad, sunan-darimi, riyad-as-salihin, bulugh-al-maram, al-adab-al-mufrad, shamail and mishkat.
Grades are shown as Sahih, Hasan, Da‘if (weak) or Mawdu‘ (fabricated). Every book, chapter and hadith is added to the sitemap.
The admin pages
In the admin menu, the Plugins group has Hadith. Its page has three tabs: Hadith, Books & chapters and Import.
Import
Books come from two free, open sources:
- the Hadith API: Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi, Nasa'i, Ibn Majah, the Muwatta and three books of forty hadith;
- hadith-json: Musnad Ahmad, Sunan ad-Darimi, Riyad as-Salihin, Bulugh al-Maram, Al-Adab Al-Mufrad, the Shama'il and Mishkat al-Masabih (Arabic and English).
Each book is a card showing its chapters, about how many hadith it has, its languages and how much is imported.
- Tick the languages you want: Arabic, বাংলা, English.
- Press Import on a card, or Import every book for all of them.
- Keep the page open. The browser brings in one chapter at a time, with a progress bar; a large book like Sahih al-Bukhari takes a few minutes. Stop halts after the current chapter.
If some chapters fail (the message says so), run the import again: Import again / update brings in what is missing or new and never changes a hadith you have edited. Your server must be able to reach cdn.jsdelivr.net and raw.githubusercontent.com.
The Hadith tab
Every hadith in a list, with filters for book, grade and state (Hidden, Featured, Edited by you) and a search by words, narrator or number. Each row has Edit, a link to view it, a star to feature it, Hide / Show and delete. Tick several and choose Feature, Unfeature, Hide, Show or Delete under With the ticked…, then Apply.
Add a hadith (or Edit) has these fields:
| Field | Notes |
|---|---|
| Book, Chapter | Where it belongs. |
| Number in the book | For example 52, or 3604.1. |
| Arabic | The Arabic text. |
| Narrator and Hadith, in Bengali and English | The narrator is shown as "… হতে বর্ণিত:" or "Narrated …:". |
| Grade, Who graded it | For example Al-Albani: Sahih. |
| Topics (for search) | Words people may search for, such as intention, salah, parents. |
| Shown on the site | Untick to hide it. |
| Featured | Listed under Selected hadith and used for the hadith of the day. |
A hadith you save is marked edited, and an import never overwrites it.
Books & chapters
Add a book asks for the name in Bengali, English and Arabic, the compiler, a few words about it, the address (letters a–z, numbers and -; empty makes one from the English name) and the Grade of every hadith if the whole book has one. Each book can be edited, exported, hidden or deleted; deleting removes its hadith and chapters too and cannot be undone.
Open a book to manage its chapters: Add a chapter with its number, first and last hadith number and its title in three languages. Deleting a chapter keeps its hadith in the book, without a chapter.
Moving a book to another site
Export downloads a book as a file. On the other site, open Import → Import a book file and choose it (up to 80 MB). A book with the same address is updated. This is the way to move a book you wrote yourself.
Hadith of the day
One hadith all day, a new one each day. It appears on the home page section Hadith of the day (arranged under Appearance → Home page), on /hadith, and on the mosque screen, taking turns with the ayah of the day. Only hadith of a readable length are chosen.
