Online & Offline Sync

On this page

The Online & Offline Sync addon keeps the panel working when the internet drops. Pages open from a copy kept in the browser, what staff save is queued on the device, and everything is sent to the server the moment the connection is back. A clear notice tells staff they are offline and what has to wait.

It is for a centre with an unreliable connection, a branch on mobile data, or dealers working from a shop where the internet comes and goes.

Switching it on

Online & Offline Sync is a premium addon, so it must be in your licence.

  1. Buy it from its card on Admin → Addons (Buy this addon), or on the License Center at https://license.faruk.bd. A paid order arrives by itself at the next licence check.
  2. If you have the key already, open License, paste it under Addon keys and press Add the key. Check now asks the License Center at once.
  3. Press Enable on the Online & Offline Sync Addons card.

With the addon off, the panel never queues anything and System → Data Sync only says the addon is needed.

What staff see

A sync button sits in the top bar of the panel (and of the dealer portal). It opens a small Data sync menu with Sync now, and shows a count when something is waiting on the device.

When the connection goes, a notice says No internet connection with your offline message. Staff keep working. Saving a form that supports offline work shows Saved on this device. It will sync automatically when you are back online. When the connection returns, the notice says Connection restored, the queue is sent, and changes made elsewhere are pulled down.

These forms save offline: dealers, brands, products, serial numbers, free products and warranty cards (in the panel and in the dealer portal). Printing, and sending e-mail or SMS, have to wait for the connection.

The addon's settings

Admin → Addons → Settings on the card. These decide what the browser does.

SettingWhat it does
Keep pages on the device so they open without a connectionPages and assets are kept in the browser, so the panel still opens offline.
Sync every (seconds)How often a connected device checks for changes. Default 60. 60 is comfortable; below 20 puts real load on a shared host.
Only sync while nobody is typingKeeps the panel feeling quick; this is what stops sync slowing the site down.
Show a notice when the connection goes and comes backThe offline and back-online notices.
What the offline notice saysYour own wording, in English or Bangla.
What the back-online notice saysThe same, for when the connection returns.
Dealers can work offline tooGives the dealer portal the same offline working.
Keep the sync log for (days)Default 30. The cron job removes older log rows.

The Data Sync screen

System → Data Sync (Keep working offline, catch up automatically) is where you watch it.

The top counts:

FigureMeaning
DevicesBrowsers that have synced at least once.
Operations todayRecords sent today, with the total.
ConflictsThe server copy was newer, so it won.
RejectedNot allowed or invalid, for example a user without the right permission.

Below them:

  • How it works: a short explanation for your staff.
  • Registered devices: each browser, its user, Last pull, Last push and how many records it Pushed. The delete button forgets a device; it registers again the next time it syncs.
  • Conflicts & rejections: when, which record, the operation, the user, the Reason and the Status.
  • Recent operations: the last 25 records that came in.
  • Settings: Enable offline working and synchronisation is the main switch on the server; off, the server accepts no sync at all. The box also has Cache the panel so it opens without a connection and Sync every (seconds); keep them the same as the addon's settings above.
  • Status: Last operation, and a Sync now button.
  • Housekeeping: Delete log entries older than a number of days, then Clean up.

The dashboard shows Sync conflicts whenever there are some.

How records stay safe

  • Every record carries its own permanent ID, so a dealer or a warranty card made offline keeps the same identity on the server. Nothing is duplicated.
  • Every queued change has its own ID and is recorded once. If a device sends the same change twice, the second time changes nothing.
  • If the same record was edited on the server in the meantime, the newer server copy wins, and the attempt is listed as a conflict for you to look at.
  • A user can only send what their role allows, and a dealer only their own records.

A typical day without internet

  1. The connection drops at 11 o'clock. The notice appears.
  2. The front desk registers two warranty cards and adds a new serial number. Each save says Saved on this device.
  3. At 1 o'clock the connection returns. The notice says Connection restored and the three records go up.
  4. In the evening the manager opens Data Sync and checks there are no conflicts.

Tips

  • Leave Only sync while nobody is typing on.
  • Do not clear the browser's data on a device while it is offline; the queue lives there until it is sent.
  • Look at Conflicts & rejections now and then. A rejection usually means a role is missing a permission (see Users & Roles).
  • Keeping pages on the device needs the site on HTTPS; browsers allow it only there.
  • Sync is for devices working on this one site. To move data between two installations, use Data Export & Import or Backup & Restore.
